| (Scrap Art Material Store) is a fantastic art / craft resource centre based in Blackburn, whose aim is to recycle clean, non toxic, surplus materials from local business, that would normally end up in landfill sites. We combine a growing concern for the environment with a financial benefit for many companies and organisations. Each day, industry disposes of tonnes of waste and every day, schools need tons of materials for play and other creative activities. SAMS collects these materials and sort and display them in our premises for groups to purchase at minimal cost. | ||||||

Lancashire CRN Lancashire Community Recycling Network is a member based network providing support to existing and emerging community reduce, reuse, recycle and compost projects. Education/Awareness Education for a Greener Future EGF delivers educational activities & workshops to schools across Lancashire to promote waste awareness and highlight the 3Rs. EGF also runs training events for all those involved with delivering waste education to children and holds annual events and competitions to raise awareness of the 3Rs and waste minimisation. Provide schools education programmes and a comprehensive package of training and business support to local businesses, voluntary and community groups from foundation certificate to NVQ Level 4. (focusing on the environment, resource efficiencies, waste management, sustainable development, etc). Groundwork Rossendale is an environmental and social regeneration charity that provides education and awareness raising on sustainable development. PEN grew out of Local Agenda 21 and serves as a support network for local environmental groups in Pendle. We offer training oppportunities and contribute to the LSP as well as undertaking the Pendle Floral Heritage nursery, ecocentre and café project. The Forum is a group of committed individuals who meet on a regular basis in Morecambe and Lancaster to encourage recycling and waste reduction. Runs several waste projects including the “Not Just a Load of Old Rubbish” Recycling Directory. The Prospects Foundation is a community owned local charity that works for lasting environmental change in Hyndburn. Runs several sustainability projects including waste awareness initiatives. Composting Coldwell Coldwell is a social enterprise that offers residential training and horticultural services. Operates an accelerated compost unit and processes food waste from kitchens together with garden waste for use on own grounds. Established composting team who collect garden waste from the local community on their electric milk float, turning it into a good quality product. Scheme volunteers partcipate in a wide range of actvities, learning new skills. We also provide onsite recycling and educational visits for local schools and groups. Groundwork East Lancashire is an environmental and social regeneration charity that provides a kerbside collection service for kitchen waste in Burnley adhering to the Animal By-Products Regulations (ABPR). The project uses 3 in-vessel compostingmachines (Rocket A900). Piccadilly Garden provide training and work experience for people with learning difficulties in horticulture and community recycling. We collect green garden waste in the Lancaster City area and operate a composting site provding peat free mulches, composts and soil conditioners. The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester & North Merseyside The Wildlife Trust is set up to protect wildlife for the future. They also run various community gardening projects across Lancashire involving volunteers and local residents in activities including composting and raising awareness of reusing materials. Furniture/White Goods & Electrical Blackburn Churches Action Furniture and white goods reuse project providing low cost goods to people in need in the Blackburn area. Furniture Matters Funiture Matters run a wide range of reuse and recycling schemes including furniture, white goods, IT, cycles and paint. We have a large training unit providing quality volunteering and training opportunities for local people. We provide the bulky waste collection service for Lancaster City Council and offer collections of reusable items from commercial premises. Furniture and white goods reuse project providing low cost goods to people in need in the Preston area Provide advice, support, furniture and household accessories to homeless and former homeless persons within the borough of Chorley. Helping Hands work with the homeless and run a furniture shop, providing employment. They also recycle paper, textiles and computers that are donated to them. We provide a collection service to provide essential goods for clients on low income. Working in partnership with Hyndburn Borough Council to assist in the collection of domestic white goods for reuse and recycling. Expanding services to include local businesses by providing better quality goods and reducing landfill. We also provide training posts for volunteers and training placement post for local government. Collect donations of reasonable quality furniture and domestic appliances for re-use among disadvantaged households within the community. Provide genuine work experience placements with accredited training to the long term unemployed and volunteers. Furniture and white goods reuse and recycling, IT, aluminium cans recycling, and Community Re>Paint project operating throughout Wyre & Fylde set up by Fleetwood Community Associations. Recycle furniture and household items to poor and needy families in the South Ribble area. IT 2ndBite 2ndBite is a project funded by the Defra Business Reuse Fund and Lancashire VCFS. Donated, redundant IT equipment is recycled for reuse in the community. The project is registered as a Microsoft Authorised Refurbisher and offers free Microsoft software for eligible users. We are a Microsoft Authorised Refurbisher providing free collections of IT equipment across the UK. Computers are provided free of charge to organisations and people in need. Kerbside/Commercial collections Brothers of Charity Services Provide training and work skills to adults with learning disabilities, helping them move into paid employment. Collect Paper, card, cans and glass from businesses and households in the Kirkham & Wesham area.
Midstream offers ‘hands on’ work activity and quality training, in a caring, supportive environment, for young persons and adults who have special needs. They have been operating a kerbside recycling collection in partnership with a local council to 10,000 households and are looking to expand to new activities. The Ormerod Trust runs two schemes operated with support of adults with learning disabilities. CanAble provides a commercial waste disposal programme for cardboard and aluminium and works in partnership with Fylde Borough Council in servicing on street collection bins. We are soon to commence cartridge recycling. Branching Out is a community gardening and recycling green waste service for the elderly and infirm in St Annes.
Scrapstores FACE FACE is providing a pathway into employment for people with learning disabilities. They collect reusable waste from business for their scrapstore which offers arts and crafts products. We also collect cans from local businesses and materials for recycling from households in the local area. Wood Chip off the old Block Chip off the Old Block is a project of Integrate, a registered charity set up to provide supported employment and training for adults with learning difficulties and people marginalised by society. We operate a wood recycling and reuse scheme accepting all sorts of commercial wood as an alternative to landfill. Miscellaneous Age Concern Lancashire We provide a range of community services for older people including information and advice. Work in Burnley, Chorley, Lancaster, Ribble Valley, Pendle, W. Lancashire, & Wyre and operate 5 charity shops across Lancashire which accept donations of good quality cothing, bric a brac, books, shoes and bags. The project is based at 22A Yorkshire Street, Morecambe and sells DIY materials at affordable prices. We also resell paint for the Furniture Matters Community Re>Paint scheme, and promote methods of energy efficiency. The shop provides a focal point for Morecambe residents, business, allotments, community associations and individuals for the recycling, redirection and reuse of goods within the local community and provides and creates items of use from recycled materials for sale. Provision of an Environmental Rapid Response Team to support Local Authorities, Community Groups, etc; address fly tipping, public/ open space ‘clear ups’, etc International Aid Trust is a charity that recycles furniture, textiles, metals, paper and cardboard with profits raised going towards our work in Eastern Europe and the needy in the UK. We also accept donations of good quality items from business for export to Eastern Europe. Prosperity manufactures quality outdoor furniture (benches, picnic tables etc), signage, fencing, activity play equipment and planters from 100% recycled plastic; products which are maintenance and rot free.The company also provides work-based opportunities for the socially disadvantaged; mainly producing small outdoor objects and animal bedding from recycled wood and cardboard. |
