CRN  CODE OF PRACTICE FOR DATA MANAGEMENT [1]
  1. Data Project staff will abide by this code of practice and any member-specific data protocol agreements as completed in the data protocol questionnaire.
  1. All members must be committed to supplying certain data to the CRN for representational and other purposes. The data will be treated according to a member-specific data protocol agreement between that member and the CRN, and according to this code of practice.
  1. Data will not be released outside of the boundaries of the Data Project in any way where individual groups’ information can be identified, unless permission is obtained from that group by Data Project staff.
  1. A group’s data will only be passed on to other CRN staff with the agreement of that group. Groups Data will under no circumstances be passed on to members of the Executive Committee.
  1. Any group’s data collected by the Data Project and stored in electronic form will be available to Data Project staff and that group only. Nobody else will be able to gain access.[2]
  1. Collated data may be released into the public domain without prior consent where the number of members in such a dataset is greater than ten. Great care will be taken to ensure that individual data sets will not be distinguishable.
  1. Where the number of members in a group of collated data is less than ten, the agreement of each member will be sought before releasing to the public domain.
  1. All paper records containing sensitive information will be kept in a locked filing cabinet limited to Data Project staff.
  1. Breech of this code of practice by Data Project staff constitutes a disciplinary offence and will be dealt with accordingly.
 

[1] This code of practice has been developed in consultation with CRN full members. It is subject to review depending on future circumstances, again in consultation with CRN full members.
[2] The use of data in the CRN members’ directory is dependant on the consent of each member as set out in the member-specific data protocol. The directory includes contact details and information on activities the group is involved in. Data included in this directory is an exception to rule 5.
