The Community Recycling Network is holding a seminar to investigate the potential of wood recycling as an innovative and exciting area of development.
As amendments to the packaging waste regulations are imminent, this seminar, which CRN has organised with Wildwood, is the best opportunity to examine the issues presented by wood recycling.
Among the areas tackled by the seminar will be the business and training opportunities arising from wood recycling. Speakers will discuss how best to take advantage of these opportunities.
The speakers have been drawn from the community sector, local authorities and the government. The speakers include Ralph Crouch from the Environment Agency, Stuart Jackson, project manager at Wildwood, Richard Mehmed, of the Brighton and Hove Wood Recycling Project and Debbie Evershed from the London Woodbank, along with representatives from Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council.
Nick Francis, CRN director, said: "Now that wood is acknowledged to be part of the packaging regulations, there is an opportunity for government and the recycling sector to make the packaging regulations work - since, hitherto, they have been a disaster and there has been no incentive for anybody to take them seriously.
"This seminar is a vital component of the community sector's approach to this issue."
The seminar is being held on Thursday, February 24 at Wildwood in Doncaster.
