CRN CELEBRATES KERBSIDE COLLECTIONS FOR ONE MILLION HOUSEHOLDS

The Community Recycling Network held a kerbside summit of its members last month (June 28) to celebrate the collection of recyclable waste from more than one million households.

Fifteen members came from as far afield as Northern Ireland and Scotland to the celebration day held in Bristol. Those taking part in the mini-conference acted as a steering group for another kerbside seminar to be held in September, which will be aimed at a wider audience, including local authorities, waste management companies and community enterprises and will discuss forming partnerships for kerbside household collections.

During the day there were discussions about the how community kerbside collections will develop in the light of the Government's new waste strategy and how to make sure the community recycling sector remains as a key player nationally and strategically.

Andy Moore, the Co-ordinator of the Community Recycling Network, says: "It was a very constructive day. We could have talked for another day because there are so many exciting directions in which community sector kerbside recycling could develop and should develop because we see this as the keystone of the Government's Waste Strategy.

"We are going from strength to strength and are ready to take on our next million households."
