Network Recycling was the obvious choice when the organisers of the Labour Party conference at Bournemouth decided to introduce recycling at the week-long event. Over the six days Network collected 8.5 tonnes of waste paper for recycling.
Twenty-four thousand delegates and visitors attended the event - the largest party political conference in Europe. The conference came at the end of a busy season of event waste management for Network Recycling, which included Glastonbury, WOMAD, the Alfred Dunhill Cup and the Bristol Community Festival.
Network Recycling, with help from the Brighton-based Magpie Recycling Co-operative, set up 150 recycling points around the Bournemouth Exhibition Centre so that conference-goers could deposit newspaper, office paper, glass and cans for recycling.
"This is the first time the Labour Party has recycled waste at their annual conference," says Andy Rock, Managing Director at Bristol-based Network Recycling. "Hopefully other political parties will follow next year."
Andy Grant, Network's Site Manager, added: "We got a very favourable response from the Labour Party. Hopefully we will be back next year to make more inroads into conference waste."
