PRESS RELEASE

To be released immediately: 30th October 1999

BEST VALUE FROM THE COMMUNITY RECYCLING NETWORK

Community recycling organisations will have the chance to find out what Best Value means to them at two seminars organised by the Community Recycling Network (CRN).

From April 2000 the new Local Government Act will require all local authorities to provide Best Value across the full range of their functions and services. Best Value could create a number of opportunities for the community sector, but it also raises a number of questions and challenges. It has implications for all CRN members and the seminars will provide an opportunity to explore the content and implications of the legislation.

Both seminars are in Best Value pilot areas and speakers from local authorities, with local CRN members, will focus on the way in which the new legislation will work in practice. Seminar one will be held in Brighton on Friday October 15 1999 and the second session will take place in Bradford on Friday October 22 1999.

There will be sessions on contracts and service provision, Intermediate Labour Markets and community consultation processes.

 For further information and booking:

Claire Willcocks (0117) 942 0142 or Andy Nelmes, CRN press officer, (0117) 907 4368.
