Making the most of materials

Tenders

At the CRN UK we promote closer working between local authorities and the community waste sector. Many innovative schemes have been set up and run in partnership with local authorities and community organisations. These include source separated kerbside collections, bulky waste, WEEE and composting schemes. Most importantly these contracts not only provide recycling services but also give added value through training and placements of disadvantaged people and supporting local communities.

If you have a tender that you would like to advertise more widely please consider placing a notice here. This service is free to all CRN UK Full Members and Associates.

To submit a recycling, re-use or composting related tender please email details including a description of the tender, who to contact for further information and the closing dates to info@crn.org.uk.

Resource Management Plan (RMP) Development

The aim of this project is to work with London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to develop, validate and promote the take-up of resource management plans (RMPs) that can be used by event organisers, venues, and/or suppliers to events to manage areas of significant waste generation. The work will cover materials arising from construction, food, packaging and business activities.

Developing Waste Resource Maps for Pre-Prepared Foods in the Retail Supply Chain

The purpose of this project is to undertake research and develop detailed waste ‘resource maps’; quantifying food waste and packaging waste arisings for a selection of chilled and frozen pre-prepared foods in the retail supply chain.

For waste, the aim is to quantify the types of waste being produced, at what stage, and provide insights as to why and how they can be avoided. For water, the aim is to quantify water usage, broken down by the same product categories/supply chain steps selected for waste, including the amount of product that is disposed of via the effluent. Carbon impact and economic value will also be quantified.

Expression of interest: Use of quality compost and digestate in agriculture

It is WRAP’s intention to launch a tender invitation document in November 2009.  The tender will be for contracts to run future research projects and your comments and suggestions given through this Expression of Interest will help to inform and shape both the tender invitation and our programme of future trials.

There are, therefore, three areas on which we would very much appreciate responses through this Expression of Interest process:

  • Programme structure: the development of a network of regional ‘hubs’, with each ‘hub’ delivering trials on issues relevant to agriculture in its respective region.
  • Specific research issues: several specific research questions which we would like to address.
  • Your proposals: for future research projects on the use of compost and digestate in agriculture and field horticulture.  Projects will cover both anaerobic digestate and compost and should focus on food waste derived materials.  Projects could be run for up to four years, subject to funding, from March 2010 to March 2014.
