Northumbria Day Break is a charity based at Dilston near Corbridge in Northumberland and The Walled Garden, Minsteracres, County Durham. The charity tries to make people more independent, improve confidence and skills of adults with learning disabilities and to help them lead active and rewarding lives in the community. One of the projects is a free community service - collecting paper, bottles and cans from homes, offices and shops in the locality. These items are sorted before being taken to the Recycling Banks. By going regularly to customers the clients are able to enhance their social skills and relationships.
This programme offers a unique opportunity to be active in helping and serving the community whilst giving an awareness of environmental issues.
