More than awards
The Community Recycling Network for Scotland's (CRNS) More Than Recycling annual awards were held at Perth Concert Hall on 14 March.
Social enterprise Wood Recyclability was one of two winners of the Member of the Year 2006 award, thanks to its timber and wood waste recycling service. Futures Bute Recycling Centre was joint winner, for its curbside collection service, catering to over 2,000 households.
The Recycling and Islay Group (ReJig) won the Innovation Award in recognition of its bio-diesel project, it being the first Scottish community project of its kind to recycle waste cooking oil.
Meanwhile, the Local Authority Partnership Award was given to Argyll and Bute Council for its work within and commitment to the local community (pictured). This completed a clean sweep for the Argyll and Bute area, with a winner in every section of the awards.
CRNS Director Iain Gulland commented: "The CRNS More Than Recycling Awards has recognised community recycling organisations that have best demonstrated the innovative and dynamic qualities for which our sector is known. By recycling waste locally they are providing valuable social inclusion opportunities, enhancing the local economy and making a real difference to the long term sustainability of their communities."
