Rezolving Sustainability

The Shadow Secretary of State for the Environment, Peter Ainsworth, has visited Rezolve Kernow, based in Bodmin.

The not-for-profit company was visited by the MP as part of his focus on what local organisations are doing to help sustainability in Cornwall. Jon Rolls, Director of Rezolve gave a tour of two of the company's community projects, work in progress RE:SOURCE, and established scheme Shreddybed.

After two years in planning stages, RE:SOURCE, a purpose built furniture and household reuse centre is set to open in June. With the aim of reducing Cornish landfill sites, the centre hopes to divert hundreds of tonnes of waste by restoring and reusing household items from North and East Cornwall residents. When finished, the centre will have both a workshop for restoration and showroom for buyers to look at goods for resale. Jon Rolls explained: "Residents of North Cornwall and Caradon can now benefit from this exciting project, not only be being able to pass on their household items which may still have a useful life, but also by being able to purchase household furniture and other goods at affordable prices."

Rezolve's previously established project was also included in the MP's tour. Ainsworth was shown around the Shreddybed factory, where waste cardboard is turned into animal bedding. The scheme diverts over 50 tonnes of corrugated cardboard waste from Cornwall's landfill sites every month. The factory also prepares the material for resale to a variety of different markets in the county, aiming to provide a sustainable service, with environmental and economic benefits.
