Go against the grain

Otters Rotters, the Devon-based community recycling group, have just launched a new range of recycled timber products. The scheme collects unwanted and leftover timber from local companies and transforms it into garden and household furniture, which is then displayed and sold at their showroom in Honiton Business Park. The new range of products includes garden planters, bird tables, shelving, picture frames, and kitchen cabinets. Bespoke items can also be ordered. So far the project is a great success, as Jonathan Fearn, Timber Project Manager describes: "...everything is handcrafted using locally reclaimed timber and can be customized to suit individual requirements...Whether people are stuck for gift ideas or simply want to shop in a more environmentally friendly way, we have something here for you to try".

As well as preventing reusable wood from reaching landfill, the projects provides local residents with learning disabilities and mental health problems the opportunity to develop woodworking skills and be part of a meaningful community group.
