Schools win for woods
Schools in Wales raised £700 for a major project by the Woodland Trust to plant five hectares of woodland.
The money was raised as part of the Yellow Woods Challenge, a competition run by Yellow Pages for schools to collect and hand in old directories for recycling. Forty schools in the borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf took part and collected a total of 7,810 Yellow Pages. The winning school was Glanffrwd Infants School from Ynysybwl who collected seven directories per pupil to win £300 for the school.
Anthony Christopher, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Frontline Service Cllr commented: ''Not only did pupils help raise funds for their own school, but they also learnt more about the importance of recycling and protecting the environment.''
The Woodland Trust is using the money to fund their Tree For All campaign, a project that has seen children all over the UK plant over three million trees. '
