Environment is on the agenda

Reducing carbon emissions and improving environmental procedures are key objectives for UK companies next year.
According to a survey by business consultants Grant Thornton, 80 out of 200 companies said that investing in environmental programs was a priority. This was more important than training, development and regulation with just over 50 companies putting this as most important.
Altogether, the surveyed companies have spent around £400 million pounds on measures to reduce waste and cut down on carbon emissions.
In an interview, Alysoun Stewart of Grant Thornton’s Strategic Services Unit, said that environmental issues were becoming a crucial part of today’s business practices.
“Within the past 12 to 24 months, environment has catapulted to the forefront of business agendas. There's a growing realisation that energy resources for the future are beginning to dwindle, and there's going to be an increasing cost burden imposed by the government in respect of protecting the climate.”
In January, Tesco announced that they will be spending over £500 million pounds on reducing energy use and their contribution to climate change.
