Historic paper mill up for award
A social enterprise based at a working Victorian paper mill has been nominated for an international award.
The Paper Trail in Apsley, Hertfordshire, will be heading to Portugal for the European Enterprise Awards, which recognise initiatives that support business and employment opportunities. The organisation, which is a registered charity, runs an Education and Training Centre where people and schoolchildren can take part in workshops and training programs based around the print media industry. The Paper Trail also runs the Recycling for Learning scheme, which recycles waste paper from 200 schools in and around Hertfordshire.
In May, The Paper Trail won the regional stage of Enterprising Britain and more recently took second place at the national competition.
"It is absolutely fantastic to win a place on the podium and be nationally recognised as a top centre of enterprise in the country,” said Jacky Bennet, chief executive at The Paper Trail. “It is a proud moment for us after five years of hard but rewarding work. The East of England is a region that prides itself on being a 'space for ideas' and it's brilliant to be recognised nationally as an example of this."
