Delegates visit social enterprise
A community support service was host to a visit by delegates of the Community Recycling Network for Scotland (CRNS) during their annual meeting in September.
The 4th Annual General Meeting of CRNS, which took place in Inverness, included a visit to New Start Highland, a community group that runs a recycling service and provides support services for vulnerable people.
New Start Highland diverts around 500 tonnes of unwanted household goods a year. A team of 24 staff and 50 volunteers collect recycling from a significant area of Highland. They also work with St Vincent de Paul in America and send them any unwanted furniture.
David Bryan, CRNS Development officer for the north of Scotland, said: "New Start Highland is an excellent model to follow for any reuse or recycling social enterprise. They provide an excellent range of services to Highland Council that represent a significant saving to the public purse. They also offer a helping hand and help to rebuild lives.”
