Regulations need more attention
The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) has warned businesses to seriously consider new regulations for pre-treatment of waste.
The industry body found that many UK companies were unaware of the new regulations and what they required of pre-treatment processes. In order for the regulations to be effective in increasing rates of commercial and industrial waste recycling and recovery, businesses need to be fully informed for when the regulations come in to force next month. As a result, the CIWM will be organising a number of free briefing sessions for pre-treatment of waste.
CIWM Chief Executive Steve Lee, said: “The waste industry has the chance to lead from the front here; regulation is only going to get tougher over time and there is a much sharper focus on commercial and industrial waste at national policy level across the UK. Engaging effectively with the business community now can only pay dividends in the future, and will help to ensure that our industry makes that important step from waste to resources management.”
