Scottish Awards for Community Recycling
The Community Recycling Network for Scotland (CRNS) is to hold its third annual awards ceremony. These awards will honour the organisations in the recycling sector that have made the biggest impact on local communities across Scotland in the past year.
Recycling in Scotland is now showing an annual turnover of £26 million. This is an increase of more than 20 per cent over the previous 12 months. The CRNS is a membership body for community recycling organisations. They provide information, advice and support to community recyclers.
This year's awards were launched by Joyce Walsh, CRNS Event Coordinator, and John Ferguson from the awards' sponsor, the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA). Nominations close on 11 January and t he awards ceremony will take place on 11 March at Perth Concert Hall. There are three categories of awards: CRNS Member of the Year, the Innovation Award and the Local Authority Partnership Award.
Winning a CRNS award can provide real benefits to an organisation. Re-JIG, a recycling charity based in Islay, won the 2006 Innovation Award for devising a way of turning used cooking oil into environmentally friendly bio-diesel. David Protherough, Re-JIG Project Manager, comments: " Winning the award boosted our staff and volunteers' morale and increased our profile which has helped us onto even greater success."
