A New DAWN for Doncaster

The Community West Recycling Project and ECT Recycling have joined in partnership to create DAWN Environmental, a new recycling service for Doncaster.

The new company successfully tendered to provide doorstep recycling services to 68,000 households in North and West of the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster. The contract is set to run for two years, with the weekly recycling service catering for paper, glass, cans and plastics as well as yellow pages and even mobiles and ink cartridges. Plastic bottles are planned to be added to the resident's of the west of the boroughs list of recyclable items by the summer.

Mark Hodson, Doncaster Council's Strategic Director for Neighbourhoods, Communities and Children's Services, said: "This is great news for Doncaster. We are continually improving recycling facilities and this is another step towards ensuring more and more materials can be collected from the doorsteps of all our residents."

The DAWN scheme is hoping to extended its services to schools and community groups by the end of this year, ensuring that "DAWN

Environmental very much remains part of the local community," commented Rhona Coulter, ECT's Operations Director.

DAWN also has plans to provide an extra service at the end of the year picking up used cards for recycling over the Christmas period, meaning Doncaster's residents can celebrate over the festive season in the knowledge that their tidings can be reused next year.
