Awards for environmental excellence Business in the Community's Awards for Excellence 2008 opened for entries this month. They include three environmental categories, which recognise companies that have improved their impact on climate change, reduced resource use and waste or shown environmental leadership across their businesses. The Barclays Environmental Leadership Award category is for companies demonstrating leadership and improved impact by embedding environmental strategy into core business processes. The Lafarge Cement UK Eco-Efficiency Award category is for companies taking a strategic, comprehensive and innovative approach to reducing natural resource use and waste. The Man Group International Climate Change Award category is for companies in any country taking a strategic, comprehensive and innovative approach to tackling climate change. Last year's winners in these categories were Barclays Plc, BSkyB and Lafarge Cement UK, respectively. The TCS Marketplace Innovation Award is also open to companies that have innovated new, or modified existing, products or services to meet environmental needs. A Gala Dinner for the winners will be held in July 2008. Last year, the environmental categories of the awards were presented by HRH The Prince of Wales and Al Gore at the Royal Albert Hall.
