London recycling advisers
Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in London will now be able to receive free recycling advice from a team of experts.
This is part of a joint venture between London Remade and WRAP's (Waste & Resources Action Programme) Recycle at Work Advisory Programme. Since 2001, London Remade has successfully helped to divert 1.23 million tonnes of waste from landfill and advised over 400 businesses on how to recycle more and reduce their impact on the environment.
Elena Rivilla, Peter Crome and Hara Xirou (pictured, left to right) make up the new team of SME advisers. They will provide free of charge, one-to-one support to SMEs to help them recycle more materials. They can assist companies in finding appropriate local recycling services, assessing what can be recycled, developing in-house recycling schemes and providing training to encourage staff to use the services.
Sarah Downes from WRAP says: "Many SMEs want to recycle their waste, but find it difficult to access appropriate recycling services, because they think it is more costly and time consuming and they lack information and internal human resource to get started. This means good recyclable materials are going to landfill."
The team will also liaise with local recycling service providers to help get additional services into new areas. Hopefully, this will make it easier and more convenient for SMEs in London to recycle.
