'Think Cans in the Classroom'

The 'Think Cans in the Classroom' website is a new feature in Novelis Recycling's initiative to help schoolchildren learn about aluminium recycling.

'Think Cans' is funded by revenue from Packaging Waste Recovery Notes. Resources for teachers in primary and secondary schools are available to download for free from the website. Lesson plans are provided, with ideas for activities that can be used across the curriculum in subjects ranging from Science to Design Technology .

For younger children, there are worksheets and recycling-related games to play online. Primary school teachers can also download or request a CD-ROM version of ' The Recycling Loop', an interactive programme that demonstrates the various stages of aluminium recycling. GCSE-age students are able to learn about the science behind recycling and use Novelis Recycling as real-life company case study. They can even set up and run a recycling business in school using advice from Novelis employees.

Marketing & Communications Manager at Novelis Recycling, Diana Caldwell comments: "The launch of Think Cans in the Classroom marks an exciting new phase in our strategy to improve the public's understanding of aluminium and acceptance of recycling as a way of life.  The new website aims to enable teachers to easily integrate recycling into the heart of the curriculum by providing a range of innovative and engaging activities.  We hope that in doing so it will encourage children to put what they've learned at school to good use and make recycling part of their everyday lives."
