University bulks up bins for charity
This June, Anglia Ruskin University's Chelmsford Campus played host to a drive for reusable goods in aid of several charities. The event, dubbed 'Choose2Reuse Tuesday', saw three deposit bins placed in central locations around the campus for staff to drop off any unwanted reusable items they had. It was supported by Defra's Environmental Action Fund and run by the Essex Community Reuse and Recycling Network.
The items acquired on that Tuesday, ranging from cuddly toys to buckets and spades, had an estimated resale value of £1,254.60. Encouraged by the success, the university kept the bins on to collect more reusable belongings as the students vacated their halls of residence . The goods were then sorted and distributed to Farleigh Hospice, Oxfam and Age Concern.
