Putting the 'cycle' into 'recycle'
Waste management company Veolia Environmental Services recently completed a cycle track incorporating recycled materials for Valley Park Primary School in Gleadless, Sheffield.
The final day of construction saw senior management rolling up their sleeves to complete a seating area made from recycled tyres. On previous days, others had constructed the track's surface from waste material and from the quarrying process.
Veolia's Andrew Graham, who managed the project, said: "It is great to be able to carry out a project that will benefit our local community in so many ways. It has taken a lot of hard work but we are pleased with our achievements. The cycle track is already used for lessons and by the local community so that is brilliant news all round!"
Alan Woodman, Head Teacher at Valley Park Primary School, added: "Cycling is something that appeals to many children in the school regardless of age and gender so it's a fantastic way of encouraging children to be healthier. The use of recycled materials has also helped encourage recycling and waste awareness in the classroom; many thanks to Veolia for all their help."
